Lady Isaac named as AvON patron

A stalwart of Christchurch conservation and business has been named as the patron of the group campaigning for a reserve and river park in the Avon River red.

Diana, Lady Isaac accepted the invitation from the Avon-Otakaro Network (AvON) to become its patron, saying, “This project is so dear to my heart and closely aligned with my own conservation interests.”

With her late husband Neil, Lady Isaac founded and built the Isaac Construction Co Ltd and created the Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust, which manages Peacock Springs Wildlife Park.

Lady Isaac was influential in creating the Isaac Lakes in the Clearwater development and was behind the restoration of the Isaac Theatre Royal. The Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust also offers several scholarships in geography, environmental science and conservation at Canterbury and Lincoln universities.

AvON spokesman Evan Smith said AvON was absolutely delighted to have Lady Isaac as its patron.

“Lady Isaac has played an enormous role in conservation in Christchurch, and AvON is thrilled that she has recognised the importance of our vision.

“Our vision is of a stunning ecological, social and financial asset that will bring joy and prosperity to all of Christchurch,” he said. “We have supporters from all parts of Christchurch, of every age and from all sorts of occupations. Lady Isaac’s decision to become our patron shows yet again how popular the concept of Avon-Otakaro River Park is with all of Christchurch.”
